Laser Hair Removal

Laser hair removal is a gentle, safe and effective way to permanently reduce unwanted body hair compared to temporary, traditional methods of hair removal such as shaving, tweezing, waxing, threading, and depilatory creams that are often problem-causing and never-ending. Laser treatments can be performed just about anywhere on the body, and depending on the person, significant hair reduction can be enjoyed for months to years. 

In general, our laser treatments are designed for maximum comfort - thanks to  Candela's advanced cooling technology that delivers a burst of cryogen before each laser pulse to help protect the skin and minimize a heat sensation.  Treatments are also quite quick too! For example, small areas such as a chin can take a few minutes; medium areas such as a bikini or underarms may take less than 15 minutes; and large areas such as full legs or a full back can take less than 30 minutes. Many clients even choose to do multiple areas in one sitting, combining facial areas with various body areas - all in about an hour!  For optimum results we typically recommend at least 6-8 treatments within a certain time-frame (usually 4-8 weeks apart depending on the area); however, each individual is different and more or less treatments may be necessary to achieve desired results. 

What our clients love most about their laser results in between treatments is the progress they see when they stay on their customized schedule. They also enjoy having less skin irritation, needing to shave less, getting rid of razor bumps and stubble, and being more confident in their own skin.

Our Candela Pro Plus laser is designed to safely and effectively treat a wide range of skin tones by using advanced laser technology that can be customized for each individual. During your consultation, Lynne or Dayna, our experienced and Certified Laser Electrologists,  will assess your skin type, hair color, and hair removal goals - and ultimately tailor a treatment plan specifically for you.  A test spot will also be performed to ensure the laser settings are safe and effective for your skin and hair type - and you will also get to experience the sensation of the laser and feel comfortable before your first treatment.

For lighter skin tones, the Alexandrite (755 nm) laser is often the preferred choice. This wavelength is highly attracted to the pigment (melanin) in the hair follicle, allowing it to precisely target unwanted hair while leaving the surrounding skin largely unaffected. It is known for delivering fast, effective treatments and excellent long-term hair reduction.

For medium to deep skin tones, the Nd :YAG (1064 nm wavelength) is the gold standard for laser hair removal. Its longer wavelength penetrates deeper into the skin while bypassing much of the melanin found in the skin's surface. This allows the laser to target the hair follicle safely and effectively while significantly reducing the risk of burns, hyperpigmentation, or other pigment changes. 

Of importance, for any and every laser treatment it is essential that the laser does not waste its energy on hair stubble present above the skin.  In other words, the area to be lasered needs to be clean-shaven or meticulously trimmed just before a treatment. That way when the laser's light is pulsed on the skin, it will directly travel beneath the skin,  and solely attack melanin in the hair follicle (not the stubble), convert to heat, and cauterize the blood supply of hairs present in the anagen (growing) stage.  

For safety reasons, we recommend that you avoid sun exposure for at least 2 weeks before and after a laser hair removal treatment. Exposure to the sun's UV rays can cause pigment changes that may not be reversible.  It is also necessary to use a broad spectrum sunscreen (with a 30 SPF) daily when you are undergoing laser hair removal treatments. Reapplying your sunscreen is necessary too!
