• Avoid the sun and/or tanning of any kind (including self tanners) at least for 2 weeks before and after a treatment. Your skin cannot be freshly tanned or sun-burned for a treatment.
• For laser, shave the area to be treated prior to your appointment right down to bare skin. It is important to have clean, hair-free skin for a procedure. For electrolysis, be sure to have unwanted hairs in the treatment area present. 
• Stop bleaching any hairs in the treatment area 7 to 10 days before your treatment.
• Stop tweezing and/or waxing, and allow at least 10 to 14 days after waxing or tweezing before your appointment ( to allow hair to be present in the hair follicle for your procedure ).
• Avoid all deodorants, makeup, lotions and powders as they may clog the hair follicles within the area being treated. It is important that the skin is thoroughly cleansed when you arrive to your appointment.
• Stop using retinoids at least 2 weeks before your treatment.
• Notify our office of any health/medical changes prior to your appointment. 

The answer to this varies from person to person and is better determined during a consultation. For both laser and electrolysis, factors such as heredity, previous methods of hair removal, hair growth cycles, hormone functions, stress, medications, and the amount and type of hair present influence the treatment plan for each client.

With our Candela medical lasers, their patented DCD system allows for optimal comfort during a treatment. This releases a cooling spray prior to each pulse of laser light that diminishes the sensation of heat.

• Expect pinkness in the treated area for the first 24 hours after treatment. Apply cool compresses as desired.
• Avoid any direct exposure to the sun and use sunscreen with SPF 30 or greater at all times during the course of treatment.
• In between treatments, shaving or trimming any regrowth is acceptable. Do not wax or tweeze the treated area as that stimulates hair growth and counteracts your laser treatment.
• Although treated, hairs remain suspended in hair follicles after being lasered. You may rub the treated area with a warm, moist washcloth or loofa sponge to assist the shedding of hair which may occur anywhere from 5 to 30 days after a treatment. Soaking with epsom salt also assists in the purging detached hairs.
• After an underarm laser hair removal treatment, powder should be used instead of deodorant for the first 24 hours.
